A kid-owned space for clubhouse meetings, neighborhood spying, or family house play all wrapped up in a modern, backyard-friendly architecture.
The outdoor world is a big sea of sameness. Same play features, same architecture, same colors. With this project we sought to differentiate in two ways; by creating a real clubhouse space with a look that didn't clash with parent's #BackyardGoals.
The prototype process provided insight on scale and material use. I loved the design's large format, but sales and marketing data told us a smaller, more affordable playhouse would reach a larger audience. So we scaled down.
Our metal roof ended up getting too hot in the summer sun to touch. We chose to swap out material for a plastic corrugate.
